TeamViewer is arguably the most recognizable name in the remote support industry. TeamViewer offers both a commercial and free version of its software. The free version has quite the internet following and provides a great service but is monitored against commercial use. The commercial version ranges from $749 to $3,569 USD per license based on feature set and accessibility.
ScreenConnect and TeamViewer are similar in that they are both one-time purchases that provide a single available solution for remote support, remote access, and remote meetings. The main difference between the two products is pricing, UI design, and scalability.
ScreenConnect vs. TeamViewer
How do you compare with TeamViewer?
It’s tough to compare the products apples to apples because of the dramatic differences in licensing. Generally speaking ScreenConnect is around 1/3 the price of a TeamViewer Business license.
When comparing feature sets ScreenConnect relates closest to TeamViewer Premium or Corporate licenses. Both tools have an extensive list of offerings geared around remote support, though TeamViewer may have a few more features.
Overall we feel ScreenConnect's implementation is as strong in most use models to that of TeamViewer. Additionally, ScreenConnect is self-hosted so it resides inside your network which increases security and configuration control.
TeamViewer allows multiple simultaneous sessions with their license, why doesn’t ScreenConnect?
TeamViewer allows 3 simultaneous sessions between the host and guests with a single Corporate license. ScreenConnect allows unlimited simultaneous connections between the host and guest, but the host can interact with only one customer at a time. The hosts can easily navigate between guests in queue limiting the number of licenses they need.
What are the licensing differences?
TeamViewer licenses per workstation, while ScreenConnect is concurrent use. What that means is that for a standard TeamViewer Business license to be used by other people it would cost an additional $139 per computer or you would have to purchase a Premium or Corporate license. ScreenConnect allows unlimited access from any computer in the world — no pre-installed software is required.
Why doesn’t ScreenConnect have a personal use or free version of their software?
We have considered releasing a personal use license, but we would only do so if we felt we could provide something that would be different than the current free offerings. We launched ScreenConnect because we felt the industry prices of BOMGAR®, TeamViewer, and the various hosted solutions were too expensive, and the free tools were not reliable.
Why choose ScreenConnect over TeamViewer?
If you are looking for every bell and whistle imaginable, TeamViewer may be the answer. In turn, you will be paying a premium for the software. Their most comparable product, a TeamViewer Corporate license ($3,569), is approximately 11 times the cost of a ScreenConnect license. We don’t have every feature of TeamViewer, but we provide a solid feature set at an affordable price which makes us an ideal low-cost TeamViewer alternative.
