ScreenConnect vs. CrossLoop

A low-cost CrossLoop Alternative

Webex Logo

Since its launch in 2006, CrossLoop has provided a unique screen sharing alternative to an industry dominated by hosted, monthly-fee solutions. We applaud what these guys have done and really think it’s a great model for people to help friends and family. Based out of Monterey, California CrossLoop started with 9M in funding and has grown a large community of followers and experts.

A lot of users utilize the free access to help their grandfather setup his email or their sister to remove a virus. But there is also the for-pay support community. The members of the community sign-up as experts and earn rank and credibility as they assist customers with problems. These experts have access to a billing module and other services for which CrossLoop charges transaction fees. These fees vary depending on the service and the nature of how the customer was acquired.

As a technician CrossLoop is easy to setup but the tradeoff would be the lack of ownership of the product, branding, and transaction fees. ScreenConnect is a onetime purchase, self-hosted remote support and remote access solution. We don’t charge monthly fees and we don’t ask for a percentage of your transactions, but if it would make you feel better we do accept donations!

...There are much more expensive options that are simply less effective than ScreenConnect. Trust me, we have tried them ALL!

Key Points

CrossLoop can work well for some support technicians, but for those who prefer to direct customers to their website for support, would like to completely brand their remote support application, or who don't want to share revenue from each session with their vendor...it may not be ideal.

ScreenConnect is a self-hosted solution so there is some setup required on the host side, typically about 15 minutes. But after that technicians and guests can connect from any computer in the world, with no preinstalled software required! Here are a few key points to compare and contrast the two solutions:

  • ScreenConnect is hosted in your environment, providing complete security and no monthly fees.
  • ScreenConnect provides a framed UI designed to optimize performance and efficiency.
  • ScreenConnect responsiveness has been noted as being considerably faster, especially over slower connections.
  • ScreenConnect provides more extensive customization possibilities.
  • ScreenConnect licenses are concurrent and therefore not restricted to a particular user or workstation. Anyone in your organization can use ScreenConnect.
  • ScreenConnect offers individual and unlimited licenses.

ScreenConnect Advantage

CrossLoop has a lot of positives for supporting family and friends. But as a tool for companies who want to build their brand and business outside of the CrossLoop community, we think ScreenConnect is the best solution for those organizations. I know, I know of course we are a bit biased but hey that’s why we give you a 30-day trial. ScreenConnect provides a solid balance of capability and compatibility, key features include:

  • Compatibility with Mac, Linux, and Windows.
  • Mobile applications for Android, iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch mobile devices.
  • Plug-in architecture that allows for unlimited customization and integrations.
  • Solid remote support software feature set.

We stand by the ScreenConnect feature set, and we hope that you find it to be the best value for your remote support needs.
